I grew up in Aroostook County scaling snow banks, scribbling stories and rocking the summer reading program at my library.
After college, I felt lucky to get my hands smudged with newsprint every single day. Newswriting taught me how to write everything from stories about the opening of new businesses in the town to the latest police news.
Working at a community newspaper earned me awards from the Maine Press Association, but at the end of the day, those awards are just nice extras. The experience — the details, the deadlines and most of all the people (Well, and a kind boss!) — really made me a writer.
Now, I’ve come full circle. I’m still in the Maine woods with my family and still scribbling. Except now I’m trying to convince my two littles to be reading program rock stars. As a mom to two littles (and a persnickety Schnauzer), I don’t keep the hours of a news writer anymore. As a freelance writer, I love that I can still help people tell their stories.
I love watching the words form under my fingers. This blog is space for all the stories I bump into along the way.
about my stories.
While most of my work has been in the newspaper world, I’ve written a little bit of everything: copy for ads, promotional materials, and stories on just about every subject under the sun. During my time as a freelancer, I’ve worked on feature stories and snapped photos. I’ve also helped manage marketing for a local non-profit, creating promo materials, advertisements. I’ve created social media marketing promos and press releases. Here’s a small sample of what I’ve had published.
